On Sept 2, 2016, I was overwhelmed with excitement to be a secret guest entertainer for a special benefit event and share the stage with the Indianapolis Colt football player and comedian, Pat Mcafee.
McAfee organized the benefit comedy show entitled “Cracking Up for Kokomo” at Murat Theatre at Old National Centre in Indianapolis. The event aimed to help and raise funds for the affected people of Kokomo whose houses were destroyed by the recent multiple tornado outbreak..
That night was absolutely electric, and the crowd was ecstatic! The typical corporate event I perform at have an audience of 500-1,200 people. But, this show sold out the theater with 2,500! The show raised $150,000 for the city with contributions from from athletes, local figures, and ticket sales and donations by guests.
It was indeed a fun night with superstar guests and delivered entertainment with some laughs, all while raising money to help my fellow brothers and sister in Kokomo. If this one show taught me anything it’s that leaders stand up and do what is right even if on short notice, including giving time and money.
